The University of Ruhuna and the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) established the China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CSL CER) with the aim of promoting research and science education in Sri Lanka. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this collaboration was signed on 16th September 2014. The signing ceremony saw the participation of high-level delegations from both China and Sri Lanka, underscoring the significance of this partnership. The MoU was formally signed by Professor Wang Dongxiao, Deputy Director of SCSIO, and Professor Gamini Senanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna.
