On Friday, May 17th, 2024, the University of Ruhuna had the distinguished honor of hosting a high-level delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The visit marked a significant step toward expanding academic and scientific cooperation between the two nations.
The delegation comprised esteemed academicians from several prominent CAS institutes and affiliated universities:

- Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS: Prof. Qiao Jianfang, Prof. Qiu Huasheng
- Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology: Prof. Chen Shuang, Prof. Wang Jun
- Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, CAS: Prof. Feng Songlin, Ms. Wang Ling
- South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS: Prof. Changsheng Zhang, Dr. Jinglong Yao
The meeting was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Deans, and senior academics of the University of Ruhuna, further reinforcing the importance of the dialogue.
The primary focus of the discussions was on strengthening institutional ties and exploring avenues for collaborative research, particularly in fields of mutual strategic importance such as environmental science, oceanography, acoustics, and climate resilience.
This visit reaffirmed the shared vision of fostering innovation, scientific excellence, and long-term cooperation between Sri Lanka and China.
