- Appointment: Professor Dongxiao WANG of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) appointed as Adjunct Professor of the Department of Oceanography and Marine Geology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology.
- Expertise: Eminent scientist in physical oceanography, Head of Physical Oceanography Division at SCSIO, and affiliated with the State Key Laboratory of Tropical Oceanography.
- Editorial Role: Serves as an Editorial Board member for ten international journals.

- Collaborations with University of Ruhuna: Under Professor Dongxiao's leadership, SCSIO signed four memorandums:
- Exchange of academic staff and students
- Establishment of a fully automated weather station
