The China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CSL CER) successfully held the Ceremony of the 10th Anniversary and the 10th China-Sri Lanka Joint Workshop on “Climate Change and Sustainable Marine Development” on 23-24 October 2025 at Cinnamon Life, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
This landmark event celebrated a decade of fruitful collaboration between China and Sri Lanka in advancing research and education in the fields of climate change, marine science, and environmental sustainability.
The workshop brought together distinguished national and international scientists, academics, and researchers working in ocean environment, climate change, and environmental sciences. Participants engaged in discussions on critical topics such as Indo-Pacific Ocean variability and its environmental impacts, climate adaptation strategies, and sustainable marine development.
As part of the celebrations, the event also launched the Initiative on Indian Ocean Climate Change and Eco-Environment Response (IOCC-EER), aiming to strengthen regional cooperation and scientific research on climate and ecosystem responses in the Indian Ocean. In addition, the inaugural ceremony of the Sri Lanka Alumni Association of students graduated from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) was held, symbolizing a new chapter in academic collaboration and alumni engagement between the two nations.
The 10th anniversary marked a significant milestone for CSL CER, reflecting its continued commitment to promoting scientific collaboration, capacity building, and knowledge exchange between China and Sri Lanka. The Center extends its sincere appreciation to all partner institutions, researchers, and participants for their invaluable contributions toward addressing global environmental challenges through joint research and innovation.
