The China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CSL CER), University of Ruhuna, successfully conducted a one-day workshop on “Introduction to Modern Climatology” for second-year undergraduate students of the Department of Geography on 19th June 2026.
The workshop was organized in support of the course unit GEO21623: Climatology and aimed to enhance students' theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of weather and climate studies.
The programme covered the following topics:
- Fundamentals of Weather and Climate
- Weather Data Collection Techniques
- Introduction to Climate Data Sources
- Climate Data Analysis
In addition to the lecture sessions, students participated in a practical demonstration of meteorological instruments and data collection methods. This hands-on session provided valuable exposure to modern techniques used in weather observation and climate research.
The workshop was conducted by the researchers, Mr. W. A. K. I. Wanasingha and Mr. S. P. I. C. Silva of CSL CER. It also strengthened collaboration between the Centre and the Department of Geography while promoting experiential learning in climatology. Participants actively engaged in the sessions and gained practical knowledge of climate data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
