CSL CER and SCSIO to Convene 11th China-Sri Lanka Joint Workshop on Climate Change and Sustainable Marine Development

The China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CSL CER), University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China, will organise the 11th China-Sri Lanka Joint Workshop on “Climate Change and Sustainable Marine Development” on 23-24 October 2026 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The workshop will bring together leading national and international scientists, researchers, academics, and experts working in the fields of oceanography, environmental science, climate change, and sustainable development. It will provide a platform for scientific knowledge exchange, discussion, and the sharing of research findings on emerging environmental changes in the Indo-Pacific Ocean and their implications for marine ecosystems, coastal environments, and socio-economic development.

A key focus of the workshop will be to explore the impacts of climate change on marine and environmental systems and to discuss scientific and practical approaches for climate change adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable management of marine resources. The workshop will also facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue on emerging challenges and opportunities related to sustainable marine development in the region.

The 11th Joint Workshop will further strengthen the longstanding academic and research collaboration between Sri Lanka and China through the exchange of scientific knowledge, identification of potential areas for collaborative research, and development of new partnerships among researchers and institutions. It will provide an important forum for fostering joint research initiatives addressing regional and global challenges related to climate change and the sustainable use of marine and environmental resources.

Through the continued organisation of the China-Sri Lanka Joint Workshop series, CSL CER and SCSIO reaffirm their commitment to strengthening international scientific collaboration, promoting interdisciplinary research, and contributing to evidence-based approaches for addressing climate change and advancing sustainable marine development.
